Cookie Policy

Last updated 31 October 2026

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies The Angler Wiki (theangler.org) uses, and how to control them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information more generally.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage and tracking pixels, work in much the same way, and this policy covers them too. Cookies set by theangler.org are “first-party”. Cookies set by other companies, such as advertisers, are “third-party”.

Your choices

If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we ask before setting any cookie that is not strictly necessary. Choose “Accept all”, or “Settings” to choose purpose by purpose and partner by partner. Until you choose, only strictly necessary cookies are set.

You can change your mind at any time with the Update Privacy Settings button on every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings, although the site may then ask for your choice again on each visit.

The cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These remember your cookie choices and keep the site secure. They are always on.

Analytics

These tell us which pages are read and how people find them, so we know what to improve. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, they are set only with your consent.

Where consent is needed and not given, Google Analytics sends Google only an anonymous signal that a page was viewed, with no cookies.

Advertising

Ads pay for The Angler Wiki. Our ads are managed by PubNation, working with Mediavine. With your consent where the law requires it, they and their partners use cookies and local storage to show ads, limit repeats, measure ads and, if you allow it, choose ads based on your interests.

Advertising partners change often, and there are several hundred of them, so the full list, with what each one does and a link to its privacy policy, is in the cookie banner under Settings. The ones you are most likely to see include:

  • First-party advertising identifiers on theangler.org, such as am_tokens, _lr_env_src_ats and _lr_retry_request (LiveRamp), _cc_id and panoramaId_expiry (Lotame), _scor_uid (Comscore), _lc2_fpi (LiveIntent), gamera_user_id, _geuid, ccuid, and local storage entries from ID5, Criteo, Intent IQ, SharedID and Optable. They last from a day to 13 months.
  • Third-party cookies from ad exchanges and advertisers, such as Google (IDE on doubleclick.net), Amazon, PubMatic, Magnite (Rubicon Project), Index Exchange (Casale Media), OpenX, Criteo, The Trade Desk (adsrvr.org) and Microsoft (bing.com). Most last up to 13 months.

YouTube videos

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the cookies we use change, and change the date at the top.
