Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information The Angler Wiki (theangler.org) collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. The Angler Wiki is a fan site for Call of the Wild: The Angler, run by Florentin Drogeanu in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Avalanche Studios Group AB, Expansive Worlds AB or Fatalist Development AB.

The Angler Hub (hub.theangler.org) is a separate site with its own privacy policy.

1. What we collect

When you visit. Like every website, our server receives your IP address, browser and device details, and the pages you view. Our security software (Wordfence) logs this to protect the site from attacks.

If you accept cookies. Our advertising partners and Google Analytics collect information about your device and how you use the site, using cookies and similar technologies. Section 3 and our Cookie Policy explain this. If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, none of this happens until you choose “Accept all” or allow it in the cookie settings.

If you contact us. The contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject and your message.

If you comment. Comments show the name you give and your comment. We also receive the email address you enter, which is not shown, and your IP address, which our spam filter (Antispam Bee) checks.

If you use Grow. Grow, a feature from Mediavine on our pages, lets you save and bookmark pages. If you create a Grow account or sign up to anything through it, Grow collects your email address under its own privacy policy.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, such as health, religion or political views, and you should not include it in messages or comments.

We never sell your contact details, and we do not send newsletters or marketing emails.

3. Advertising

The Angler Wiki is free because it shows ads. Ads are managed by PubNation, working with Mediavine. They and their partners (ad exchanges, advertisers and measurement companies) use cookies, local storage and similar technologies to show ads, to limit how often you see the same one, to measure them and, if you agree, to choose ads based on your interests.

The data used for this can include your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, language, approximate location, the pages you visit, and identifiers set by these partners. If you have signed in to Grow, it can also include your email address in hashed (scrambled) form.

You choose which partners may do this in the cookie banner, which lists each of them. Choosing “Settings” lets you allow or refuse each purpose and partner, and the “Update Privacy Settings” button on every page lets you change your mind at any time. If you refuse, you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.

Outside the UK, EEA and Switzerland, you can also opt out of interest-based ads through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative.

Under some US state laws, such as California’s, this use of cookies for interest-based ads counts as “selling” or “sharing” personal information. To opt out, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link at the bottom of every page.

4. Who we share it with

  • Our advertising partners, as described in section 3
  • Google, for Google Analytics
  • Our hosting provider in the United Kingdom, and the email service that delivers our replies, who handle data only on our instructions
  • Authorities, where the law requires it

We do not sell or share your information for any other purpose.

5. International transfers

Some of our partners, including Google and many advertising companies, are in the United States and other countries. Where your information leaves the UK or EEA, it is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as adequacy decisions, the UK-US Data Bridge or standard contractual clauses.

6. How long we keep it

  • Contact form messages: up to 12 months after the conversation ends
  • Comments: while they are published. Ask us to remove yours at any time.
  • Security logs: a short period, normally no more than 90 days
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months
  • Cookies: as listed in our Cookie Policy

7. Children

The Angler Wiki is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy
  • correct it
  • delete it
  • restrict or object to how we use it, including for advertising
  • withdraw consent at any time, through the “Update Privacy Settings” button

To make a request, use our contact form or email privacy[at]cotw.pro. We answer within one month.

Much of the advertising data is held by our partners, not by us. The cookie banner lists each partner with a link to its own privacy policy, where you can also contact them directly.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.

9. Do Not Track

Browsers’ “Do Not Track” setting has no agreed standard, so we do not respond to it. Use the cookie banner to refuse tracking instead.

10. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when what we do changes, and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be shown on the site.
