Description
The Grootslang, or ‘Big Snake’, is a mythical creature described in African folklore since the early 1800s. The gods supposedly made a mistake by granting the Grootslang excessive power and strength, causing it to dominate all other animals.
In order to prevent the creature from wreaking havoc on the world, the gods banished it to a cave. According to legend, it is a massive water creature that resembles a mixture of elephant and snake.
The creature is often said to be around 40-50ft long and leaves tracks that are 3ft wide.
It is said that the Grootslang guards a large hoard of diamonds, and is believed to be as ancient as the world itself, created by the gods. This eel definitely isn’t quite as big or as impressive as that, but for an eel, it’s really something and is almost deserving of the moniker.
