Nøkken are male water spirits that often entice women and children, as well as occasionally men, to drown in lakes or streams. When malicious Nøkkar attempt to drag people in, they can only be dissuaded by the call of their true name. They are often shapeshifters, changing form to best suit the whims of their prey.
