The Bicentennial Half Dollar was created as a memorial to the assassinated 35th president of the USA, John F Kennedy. It was authorized by congress just over a month after his death. The coins were initially hoarded by collectors and those interested in a memento of the late president, and as such have seen very little comparative circulation.
