Cherry Salmon

This is the Wiki page for the Cherry Salmon found in Kamuibetsu National Park.

Description

The Cherry Salmon, also known as Masu in Japan, is a species of salmon found in the Northern Pacific and associated rivers. Although generally accepted as a salmon in the West, the fish is regarded as a trout in Japan, due to it being the mostly commonly seen freshwater salmonid. A Masu Salmon at sexual maturity has a darkened back, with the stripes at the sides of the body becoming bright red, from which its name is derived. As adults, Cherry Salmon weigh up to 6 lb (2.7 kg) and measure roughly 20 in (50cm) in length.
