This small, egg-shaped electronic device has a single screen that takes up most of its surface, and three buttons which are used to control the screen. This device in particular sputters to life when the central button is clamped down, propelling one Sammy Sauger onto the screen, a minute green and brown fish casually coiffed in a loose button-down shirt, garnished with purple tie and intricate tobacco pipe; all lovingly recreated in around 12 pixels with a few to spare. Sammy supplicates the would-be-player with a bunched-up newspaper and a coy smile as he demands to be fed, watered and fought in a roughly realistic manner. Players could win if Sammy managed to successfully retire at the grand age of 5 years old, and fail if caught before then. It’s easy to see why the toy took off like it did.
