This is a side project I started soon after discovering Call of the Wild: The Angler game. Whilst playing and searching for guides, I realised that all the information is scattered with no central place of finding everything.
My idea was simple – create a small website that is lean and contains all relevant information for the game. Sort of a wiki, but with guides too.
I actually started with creating high resolution maps. This was an experiment. These were created by stitching together screenshots from the game map at the highest zoom level, without any map pins. This is a tedious and slow process, but it’s very rewarding.
Everything is put together in QGIS into a proper CRS. This should allow for interactive maps to be generated.
The aim for this wiki can be split in 2 parts:
- Have a centralised place with easy to search information about reserves, fish species, legendaries, techniques and ranks.
- Create high resolution maps for each reserve. These are further split in 2 phases:
- Static maps showing the points of interest to serve as guides.
- Interactive maps to allow for filtering, reporting locations etc.
So far most of point 1 is already done. There are no legendary fish listed as I’m still deciding how to approach this.
As a start I have created full static maps for Golden Ridge Reserve and Izilo Zasendulo. These can be seen on their respective pages.
I’m challenging myself to first discover all locations in game on my own and not rely on existing information out there. However, hooks & rank information was taken from the community sheets:
- COTW: theAngler Golden Ridge Reserve Help Sheet #ResourceHub Official Angler Discord
- COTW: theAngler Trollsporet Reserve Help Sheet #ResourceHub Official Angler Discord
- COTW: theAngler Aguas Claras Help Sheet #ResourceHub Official Angler Discord
Hope you find this website useful and please send any suggestions or feedback so I can keep improving it. You can use the contact form for this and I’ll reply as soon as possible.
– Happy angling!
