The wiki has had a fair bit of work done under the hood over the past few days. Here’s what’s changed, and why.
Dark mode
There’s now a sun/moon button in the header, next to the menu. Tap it and the whole site switches to a dark theme. It’s easier on the eyes if you’re checking a hook chart late at night, or reading on your phone in a dark room.
Your choice is remembered, so you only need to set it once. The site still opens in light mode by default.
Hook charts now explain themselves
The reserve hook size charts are dense: a lot of little medals in a lot of little boxes. Working out which fish, which hook and which rank a particular marker referred to meant counting across rows and columns.
Now you can hover over any marker, or tap it on a phone, and it tells you directly:
Bream · Hook 9 · Juvenile · 0.06–0.80 kg
Species, hook size, rank and the weight range for that rank, all in one place. It works with the keyboard too, and respects whichever units you have selected.
Clearer weights
Weights used to be padded out with zeros, like 5.000kg and 421.00g. They now show only the digits that matter: 5kg, 421g, 4.1kg.
The rank tables on each fish page were also a little confusing, because one rank’s top weight was printed as the next rank’s bottom weight, which made the ranges look like they overlapped. Those now read as ranges that follow on from each other:
- 👶 Juvenile: 421g – 1.763kg
- 🥉 Bronze: > 1.763kg – 6.65kg
- 🥈 Silver: > 6.65kg – 13.265kg
Redesigned pages
Fish, legendary fish, reserve, rod, reel and mission pages have all been rebuilt. The biggest practical change is that they now work properly on phones. The old layouts collapsed into a single narrow column, and the wide charts pushed the whole page sideways. Charts now scroll on their own, and the information panels reflow instead of squashing.
On fish and legendary pages, bait and lure preferences now sit side by side with traits, and each trait shows its in-game icon. The bait list is trimmed to the five strongest preferences with a “see more” link, rather than dumping sixty entries at you.
The Baits and Lures page has been rebuilt too. It used to be plain lists; it’s now a grid of cards showing each bait with its picture and the hook sizes it works with, matching how the Rods and Reels pages already looked.
Related pages in the sidebar
Fish, legendary fish, bait, rod and reel pages now have a sidebar with links to whatever is most relevant to the page you’re on:
- On a fish or legendary fish page: the other species in that reserve, and the reserve’s legendary fish, each with a thumbnail and its top weight.
- On a bait or lure page: the fish and legendaries that take it.
- On a rod or reel page: other gear of the same type, listed by strength, so you can see at a glance where the one you’re looking at sits.
The old Search, Archives, Categories and Recent Comments boxes have gone, since none of them helped you find a fish.
Information that was already there
A surprising amount of data was being collected but never shown. That’s now on the pages:
- Reserves: counts for outposts, lookout towers, trailheads, vistas, points of interest and waterways.
- Rods and reels: level and reputation requirements, plus what each one costs in credits, gold, diamonds or event tokens.
- Legendary fish: a quick facts panel with weight, length, spawn depth, hook sizes and preferred bait.
- Fish: maximum water body depth.
Smaller fixes
- Legendary fish pages now have breadcrumbs, and they point at the right reserve.
- Text contrast has been checked across every page type in both light and dark mode, so everything meets the WCAG AA standard for readability.
- Several page layouts that were quietly broken, with columns stacking when they should have sat side by side, now render as intended.
- Mission pages were reading the wrong field for gear rewards, so they always claimed there were none. They now show the actual reward, and missions without one simply don’t show the box.
If you spot anything that looks wrong, particularly in dark mode, do let me know.
Tight lines. 🎣
