The fishermen of Aguas Claras were caught off coast in the wake of a great storm, scattering sheep and rams and trapping the town within their houses. Azucena felt lead to leave her house, in spite of her parents’ pleading and was led down a trail to the seat of Las Ruinas Viejas. There, Mary appeared to Azucena in the form of Virgen de la Orilla, no more than a few inches tall. In that moment the storm stood still, the tides hushed to a whisper and the fishermen could come home.
