The Northern River Otter is a semiaquatic, carnivorous mammal native to North America. A River Otter can grow to be between 26-42 in (66-107 cm) in length and weigh between 11-31 lb (5-14 kg). River Otters can often be observed to swim close to boats or humans due to their nearsightedness. This stands in contrast to their well developed sense of smell, hearing, and touch in addition to sensitive whiskers that they use to hunt their prey.
