Description
The Spotted Bass is a freshwater fish native to North America that has been introduced to South Africa, where it has become established as an invasive species. Spotted Bass can reach up to 25in (64cm) in length, and up to 11lb (5.2kg) in weight. They can often live to a ripe old age of seven. Spotted Bass typically prefer cool or warm mountain streams with rocky bottoms, and feed on insects, crustaceans, frogs, worms and smaller fish. They are often mistaken for the Largemouth Bass, however, quite predictably, have a smaller mouth.
