Description
Koi, or more specifically Nishikigoi, are colored varieties of the Common Carp that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor Koi ponds or water gardens. There are many varieties of ornamental Koi, originating from breeding that began in Niigata, Japan in the early 19th century. This Feral Koi must have been a descendant from such a fish breaking free from a pond or enclosure, and breeding in the wild.
